Kirklees Community Projects
Our local branch is very active in its support for the Group's Social Responsibility commitment and has participated in a number of initiatives:
Falls awareness events in Cleckheaton and Batley.
All residents of the sheltered housing scheme in Cleckheaton were invited to a fish and chip lunch and given information about falls prevention and a new pair of safer slippers. Veronica Dixon organised the event supported on the day by two of our carers, Ruth Colbeck and Mandy Timmins. Both ladies were very enthusiastic about the event and thought it was an excellent combination getting people out of their rooms to socialise with one another as well as being provided with some practical support that could help prevent a fall in the future.

Coffee morning for Action on Elder Abuse
Carers and office staff supported the charity Action on Elder Abuse with a coffee morning, tombola and ‘name the cuddly toy’ contest. The charity holds an awareness day every year and, with the local care team focused on looking after vulnerable elderly people in their own homes, they decided it was a cause they wanted to support.
As well as raising £75 for the charity, carers also distributed information to create wider public recognition that some older people in the community are subject to abuse and bullying.
Veronica wins Carer of the Year for the North West
The annual home care awards organised by Ceretas, which represents people working in the sector, was held on March 31st at the Marriot Hotel in Grosvenor Square. Careforce had three finalists including Veronica Dixon from Kirklees representing the North West.
Veronica, who is our branch Supervisor, won the award for her professionalism and her dedication to the 100 service users and team of 25 carers that she supports. The judge told Veronica that she had outshone all the other nominees in her category.
