Christmas lunch party for service users and staff
The Cheshunt team were able to put on a fantastic three course lunch for some of their service users thanks to publicans and regulars at the Rye House in Hoddesdon. The pub landlords, Kevin and Denise, not only provided the venue and did all the cooking, they also raised the fantastic sum of £882 to pay for the party.
The Careforce team invited 40 people to the lunch and organised wheel-chair friendly transport to and from Rye House so as many people could join in as possible. Eighteen carers volunteered to accompany them and also to sing carols and act as waiters on the day.
One of the guests was Charlie, whose wife Winifred is looked after by Careforce, Winifred isn’t well enough to get out but Charlie came along to give him a break as he is her main carer. Charlie said “having Careforce care for Winifred means everything to me. The carers are like our family and they help me to keep Winifred at home. I’ll never put her in a residential home but I couldn’t manage on my own.”
Also helping out was John whose mother was cared for by Careforce before she died. Shirley one of his mother’s main carers was helping out too and John was full of praise for the care she received. “Caring is a hard job but everyone I’ve met seems to love doing it and they are all such genuinely caring people. I’ve come along to help out today as a way of saying thank you for all the help my mum received.”
