Jayne Cornell from our Cambridge Branch
Jayne Cornell has been chosen from almost 3000 carers around the country to be Careforce Carer of the Year 2007. Jayne who lives in Haddenham has been caring for local people living in their own homes for thirteen years, over which period she has helped look after hundreds of elderly or vulnerable people.
Jayne was initially nominated by her Manager, Lynn Ellis, as a Carer of the Month after she received a highly complimentary letter from the daughter of an elderly lady with very complex care needs, but who was very independent and wanted to stay in her own home. Jayne was praised for her exceptional abilities as a carer which had allowed the lady to remain living in her own home for much longer than would have been possible without her help. Through her patience and kindness Jayne was able to gain her trust and to give her the care she needed. Her reliability and professionalism had also helped reduced much of the stress and worry from the lady's daughter, who had previously been her sole carer. Lynn says that Jayne deserves recognition not just for this one grateful service users but because over the years she has always shown the same levels of dedication and commitment to everyone she had cared for and is a real ambassador for the caring profession.
Jayne was awarded Carer of the Year because she is truly representative of all the thousands of unsung care heroes who make a difference to people's lives every day of the week, but often go unnoticed. Jayne was presented with a plaque and a cheque at Careforce's offices in Waterbeach.
